This is an idea that i have struggled with for a while. If Sonic The Hedgehog is the fastest thing on the planet, then why would he need a race car?

Fortunately Sonic Racing Transformed provides and answer to this question and at the same time it destroys all comparisons between itself and Nintendo's most popular racing game Mario Kart. Sonic Racing Transformed is a completely unique experience, as it provides the players with a whole new challenge. Its not just the tracks on Sonic Racing Transformed that will be challenging the gamers, its more that the tracks will shift and change and to keep up with those changes your vehicle also has to change. From the classic mode of transport, your vehicle while shift from land worthy to being able to tread water and then will switch again to air borne.

This time around Sega have decided that the players have to work hard to unlock all the extras that Sonic Racing Transformed has to offer, rather than its previous game of basically handing them out. Also there has been alterations to this games roster, some characters are now removed from the selection and have been replaced by some more fitting characters such as Shinobi, Guillius from Golden Axe and NiGHTS.

The game is filled with beautiful scenery taken from the various worlds of Sega, displaying intense vibrant colours that at times can be simply breath taking. Sonic Racing Transformed also has an amazing soundtrack that will have you instantly transported back in time to that brief period where Sega practically ruled the gaming world.

Sonic Racing Transformed is lots of fun to play through, especially with friends, there is a lot more to the game than its initial Grand Prix mode and The world tour mode. Try out the time trails and the battle arena.

Although Sonic Racing Transformed is an amazingly fun game I feel like there are a few elements missing from it, mostly characters that i feel should have been involved or given a second chance like Billy Hatcher. There are other characters i feel should have been given a chance. Personally i would have loved to have seen Kid Chameleon take to the tracks, or maybe even a character from Streets Of Rage, then again there's always Sega's latest addition Bayonetta, she would have been a wicked addition to the roster.

Sonic Racing Transformed gets a 8 out of 10 from me. Its unique, original and lots of fun and it features everybody favourite blue blur.
